The Young Creatives

In the spring I found out about a writing workshop for young people that was being held at Mitcham Library. Every Tuesday from 4.30pm - 6pm a group of 11 - 24 year olds get together to chat, write, and eat lots of junk food. Calling themselves the Young Creatives, what drew me to the workshop was the fact that they were publishing a book.

Every week we would meet up, workshop our stories, bounce ideas off one another, take part in writing exercises, and have fun socialising. As we got closer to finishing, it was then time to start promoting the book. I wrote a script for a trailer, which we filmed, and interviewed each other with lots of interesting questions.

Our Anthology

This Tuesday was particularly exciting because we got to receive our anthology in hand. Consisting of eleven short stories and eight poems, Tall Tales and Rapid Rhymes everyone is very proud of their achievement. We are celebrating with a book launch party on 7th November at Mitcham Library from 6pm - 8pm, and everyone is invited. We will be showing our trailer and interviews, and reading extracts from our stories. The anthology will be available to buy on the day or from Amazon, and Waterstones (Wimbledon & Croydon branch). You will also be able to borrow it from any Merton library.

Just because the book is finished does not mean that the workshops are ending. We we will still meet up every Tuesday, and welcome any newbies to the group. It is free to join, and you don't have to book. So if you are between 11 - 24 years old and love to write, why not join us? Over the coming weeks we will be turning our hand to poetry.
