London's South Bank is hosting a World Book Night party on 23 April, with an evening of readings, music, performance, and book sharing.
The event features a group of literary stars including Jon Ronson, Andrea Levy, Meg Rosoff, Elif Shafak, Lemn Sissay, Iain Banks and Mark Haddon.
After readings and performances in Queen Elizabeth Hall, the evening continues with spoken word, comedy, music and cocktails in a cabaret setting. This is followed by candlelit readings on the Riverside Terrace.
World Book Night is an annual scheme to encourage reading by giving away books. With the help of volunteers who hand out copies of specially chosen books, the project is able to reach out to large numbers of people, with the aim of encouraging reading and making connections through the sharing of stories.
Books are also distributed directly to prisons, care homes, hospitals, sheltered housing, the homeless and through partner charities.
