Winter 2023/24 season at B:Music in Birmingham
There is something for everyone across Birmingham's two world-famous stages this winter.
B:Music , the Birmingham music charity responsible for Symphony Hall and Town Hall, has launched its new winter programme for 2023/24 which includes comedy, live music, dance and spoken word over the coming months. The new season, which begins in November and continues well into 2024, showcases an array of exciting performances at the two city centre venues. The winter programme kicks off in style, with the likes of Tyneside folk-rock pioneers Lindisfarne, rock legend Robert Plant and American songstress Norah Jones all performing concerts in the opening week.
But there is plenty more fun and entertainment to choose from during the rest of November and beyond. Comedy fans are in for laughs galore this winter with an A-list of stand-up stars including Lucy Beaumont (9 Nov), Eddie Izzard (15-17 Nov), and Russell Howard (18-19 Nov). Other live concerts include The Brand New Heavies with the London Concert Orchestra (11 Nov), while classical music lovers can enjoy the likes of Classical Spectacular (12 Nov) and Proms Night Spectacular (2 Dec).
An abundance of comedians in Live at Christmas
The mayhem of mirth continues into December with five comedians for the price of one at Town Hall for one night only. Live at Christmas (13 Dec) is headlined by David O’Doherty, star of
8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown and his own Channel 4 show
Along for the Ride. Joining David in an astounding bill is Scotland’s comedy queen and breakout Taskmaster star Fern Brady, viral sensation Josh Pugh, fast-rising newcomer Kyrah Gray and Jen Brister as host. And further fun is in store with a selection of festive favourite movies including
The Muppet Christmas Carol with a live orchestra.
Meanwhile, dance fans will be able to see
Strictly Come Dancing’s celebrated couple, Janette Manrara and Aljaž Škorjanec, with their show Dancing in a Winter Wonderland (10 Dec). Other welcome seasonal treats in December include the traditional Candlelit Carols, Christmas at the Movies, a showing of the enchanting film
The Snowman, and a Christmas Carol Singalong on 23 December.
The Amy Winehouse Band to mark the singer's debut album
Further live music treats range from Roachford and The Overtones to Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Jools Holland and his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra, while the Cory Band embark on a spectacular journey of immersive music and dazzling multimedia entertainment in their reimagining of Charles Dickens's timeless
A Christmas Carol. Music lovers can also see The Amy Winehouse Band (21 Dec) celebrate the 20th anniversary of the late singer's debut album Frank.
The year will be seen out in style with the London Concert Orchestra staging the annual New Year’s Eve Gala (31 Dec), followed later the same evening by DJ Gary Davies with BBC Radio 2’s Sounds of the 80s: The Live Tour featuring guest singer Carole Decker (T’Pau). And the entertainment carries on into 2024, with next year's winter programme highlights includes a double bill of bands Wet, Wet, Wet and Go West live together on the same stage.
