The Windrush Festival was established in 2013 as a family-orientated, multi-generational, cross-cultural festival. The event both acknowledges and celebrates the contribution of people from the Caribbean who came to England to help rebuild Britain after the 2nd World War. The festival combines music, entertainment, food, and drinks to create a safe environment for communities to gather. In 2023, Preston City Council estimated that more than 4000 people attended the event, drawing visitors from London, Birmingham, Leicester, Wolverhampton, Stoke-On-Trent, Sunderland, Hull, Huddersfield, and Manchester. This was achieved through minimal promotion - with event awareness being through word of mouth, which gives the event a sense of authenticity and integrity.
