Throughout term time the Winchester Discovery Centre offers a range of activities aimed at your littlest ones, but for the Easter school holidays, they'll be expanding their workshops and sessions to cater to kids of all ages. From craft sessions to writing workshops, there's a lot of variety on offer, and the best bit is they're (mostly) all FREE! Check out the full program below and book online to secure spots for your kids.



Spring Crafts!
March 31st & April 4th, 6th, 7th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th; 10am-4pm

The 'Spring Crafts!' sessions will be running throughout the school holidays. There's no need to book, just come along anytime between 10am and 4pm and join in. Each day will have different craft activities. Children can make their own Easter wreaths, craft a flower crown, make cute little sheep, or even a smiling Spring rainbow. Children must be supervised by an adult at all times.

Little Tiger Author Workshop

Children's author Jonny Lambert will lead children through this craft and illustration workshop. They'll get to read Lambert's book "Tiger, Tiger' and try their hand at some themed crafts and illustrations. Bookings are required and can be made online or by calling 01962 873603. Children must be supervised by an adult at all times.

Dress Up Storytelling Workshop

Richard Hardie is the author of the Temporal Detective Agency young adult book series. His books mix sci-fi and fantasy with a good dose of humour. Budding authors are encouraged to come along to this session where there will be some narration, role playing, and a chance to pick up some creative writing tips and techniques. Bookings are not required.

Story Writing Secrets with Author Richard Hardie

This writing workshop follows on from Richard Hardie's earlier session. With more of a focus on actual writing techniques and tips on how to turn your imagination into actual written words. Bookings aren't required, but if you want to secure your spot you can do so online or by calling 01962 873603. This is a follow-on session, so for the best experience head along to both.

Children's Story Writing Workshop with Nick Newbury

Children's author Nick Newbury has created the magical world of Wyckerton where young wizards hone their craft. In this story writing workshop Newbury will focus on the essential elements of crafting a story: bringing characters to life on the page, utilising dialogue, and developing the plot of your story. ABC Easter Bunny Hop

The ABC Bunny Band are bringing a loud and festive Easter folk concert to the Winchester Discovery Centre. Inspired by folk tunes and traditions from around the British Isles, there will be some jigs, lively music and even some Morris Dance. This is all combined with interactive storytelling tailored to younger audiences. These concerts are designed for parents with babies, so parents should feel comfortable to walk around, feed, drink, sing, dance, or even change a nappy if they need. The ticket covers one adult and two children. Children must be supervised by an adult at all times.

Babies and young children

As well as these special Easter School Holiday activities, the Winchester Discovery Centre will also be continuing with its regular weekly sessions: Storytime, Let's Go Construction Club, and Rhymetime. These sessions are all generally aimed at toddlers and preschoolers. You can find more details of dates and activities online .

The Winchester Discovery Centre is open from 9am-7pm Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm on Saturday and 11am-3pm on Sunday. As well as offering a public library and library services, the discovery centre also operates as a performance space, hireable venue, gallery and more. There are activities and events for children and adults held throughout the year, with many free sessions and workshops available.
