The Open Studio Comes But Twice a Year
Wimbledon Art Studios is home to two hundred and forty artists in the local community. The studio gives them a base of operation where they can get on with their creative endeavours in a professional environment. Comprised of two buildings, it is the largest art studio complex in London, and has played a big part in regenerating the area.
Twice a year, the studio holds an open day, in which the public can go and meet the artists, talk about their work, and potentially walk home with a unique piece of art, commission free. Their Summer Show will be between 16th-19th May, where you can visit over a hundred and forty of the resident artists in their private space. They work in various different mediums, including ceramics illustration, jewellery, sculpture, photography and more. Among the people who you will get to meet, are Rob Murray, a freelance cartoonist, Claire Smith, a stuffed animal designer, and Christian Furr, who in 1995 became the youngest artist to ever paint a portrait of the Queen.
