Farm manager Bathsheba Everdene is courted by three suitors: an honest, loyal and capable shepherd; a dazzling Sergeant; and a lonely, wealthy farmer. Why does she send a valentine to one of them with the message Marry Me? Who will win her hand or will Bathsheba and her would-be lovers all be left barren and blighted? Love and unrequited love play out in the harsh beauty of Victorian rural life.
