Theatre fans in Birmingham can enjoy two National Theatre Live productions from London without having to travel down to the capital city. The two productions, which will be screened within The Rep’s Studio space, have been added to the Birmingham theatre's exciting 2024-25 season of drama, comedy and musicals. And, also added to the new programme, is a Broadway production which is to receive its Midlands premiere next year.
The two critically acclaimed National Theatre Live productions will be shown in The Rep's studio on a cinematic quality screen. First up is the multi award-winning production of Noël Coward’s provocative comedy,
Present Laughter, starring Andrew Scott
(Sherlock, Fleabag, Vanya). The production, which will be screened twice on Monday 7th October, at 1pm and 7pm., was filmed live from London’s The Old Vic during a sold-out run in 2019.

This will be followed by the hugely acclaimed
Prima Facie, starring Jodie Comer, who found fame in the hugely successful crime drama
Killing Eve. Jodie won both an Olivier and a Tony Award for her performance in the gripping one-woman play.
Prima Facie, which was filmed live at the Harold Pinter Theatre in London’s West End in 2022, can be seen in The Studio at The Rep on Monday 18 November with two screenings at 1pm and 7pm.

The Broadway production of
The Shark is Broken, which can be seen at The Rep in May next year, is a comedic behind-the-scenes look at the making of the hit 1975 movie
Jaws. The cast includes Ian Shaw, son of
Jaws actor Robert Shaw, who famously battled the shark in the original film. Ian, who co-wrote
The Shark is Broken with Joseph Nixon, can be seen at The Rep from Tuesday 6th to Saturday 10th May 2025.
Directed by Olivier Award-winner Guy Masterson, the play celebrates movie history while also peeking at the choppy waters behind Hollywood’s first blockbuster. The story is set on the open ocean when filming on Jaws has again been delayed. Lead actors Robert Shaw, Richard Dreyfuss and Roy Scheider are crammed into a small boat, entirely at the mercy of foul weather and a faulty mechanical co-star., and, before long, egos collide and tempers flare.
