A raft of new shows has been unveiled by the Birmingham Repertory Theatre as part of its exciting Spring 2025 season. The new productions, which commence in March, include a Birmingham-based play about football academies and a spectacular dance show celebrating the 50th anniversary of a classic Bollywood action film, which closes the season in August. Theatre lovers will also get the chance to see an Olivier-award winning show direct from London’s West End.
The first of the new additions coming to The Rep is
Everybody Wants To Be Ronaldo, a raucous, high-octane show set in the suburbs of Birmingham (Fri 21 - Sat 22 March). Created by city-based TECTUM theatre, the new production explores the pressure of football academies on young men.

This is followed by pioneering new show,
What’s My Ident? (Fri 28 - Sat 29 March) produced by Birmingham-based Deaf Explorer. Written and performed by Aaron Virdeen, the play is an enlightening window into Aaron’s own journey towards self-discovery as he struggles with his sexuality as well as being a hard-of-hearing Punjabi boy.
Showstopper! The Improvised Musical arrives from the West End for just two performances on Monday 12 and Tuesday 13 May). The show involves members of the cast transforming suggestions from the audience into an all-singing, all-dancing musical.
Get up and dance with new musical production
The following month sees EGO Arts stage
You Know My Mum (Fri 27 – Sat 28 Jun) - a cheeky comedy about life and death for all the family. The story follows Alex, a 25-year-old year old woman with Down’s syndrome who is struggling with the death of her mother.
In sharp contrast, Enigma machine expert Dr Mark Baldwin will be presenting
Codebreakers - The Story of ENIGMA on Saturday 26 July, offering the studio audience a rare opportunity to view one of the few surviving Enigma machines that broke the enemy’s code in World War Two.
Yeh Dosti marks the 50th anniversary of a Bollywood blockbuster
The final new production is Yeh Dosti, which celebrates the 50th anniversary of the classic Bollywood action-adventure film,
Sholay, on Saturday 9 August. Presented by Luv Entertainment, the show promises to transport you back to the heart of Bollywood’s golden era.
In addition to the new live shows, The Rep will also screen two further National Theatre cinematic releases of critically acclaimed productions.
The Importance of Being Earnest will be screened on Monday 17 March, starring three-time Olivier Award-winner Sharon D Clarke, before this is followed on Monday 21 April by the first-ever adaptation of Stanley Kubrick's comedy masterpiece
Dr Strangelove starring seven-time BAFTA Award winner Steve Coogan.
