To paraphrase Dorothy: 'There is no place like London.' I hope I can convince you of that here. Also check out my blog at damselwithadulcimer.wordpress.com and my theatre reviews at www.playstosee.com
Summer Fun for Kids at Westfield Stratford City
Not to be outdone by its older brother to the west of London, Westfield Stratford City also has a host of events to occupy your kids over the summer holidays.
Every weekday from 17 July to the end of August, your wee ones will have a great chance to be dwarfed by giant versions of their favourite games. From cerebral chess to the less taxing snakes and ladders, Jenga, Connect 4, and the rather more active hopscotch there will be something for all ages.
The vegetable garden at Las Iguanas in Market Square is well under way and will continue to be tended by children from one of the local schools. Once the tomatoes ripen, the next stage will be cookery lessons.

There will be a great chance to sample street food between 29 July and 4 August when St Food will be parking their trucks and selling unusual and different dishes for around £4 or £5. What an opportunity to prove to your kids that there is life beyond McDonalds.
If you would prefer to interest your offspring in cooking rather than just eating, Jamie's Ministry of Food will be opening their kitchens on 30 and 31 July and encouraging budding young chefs to cook a Jamie Oliver recipe at the Great Eastern Market kitchen.

Balans will also be turning their garden into a food decorating area for little ones between 2 and 9 August. Parents can put their feet up whilst their little ones busy themselves decorating cupcakes and cookies.

Do your children have excess energy to burn during the school holidays? On 31 July, 1 and 6 August Godson will be performing and teaching street and hip hop dancing.
Westfield Stratford City may not be a treasure island, but there will be a great chance to involve your kids in a treasure hunt on the Lower Ground Floor and The Street between 5 and 9 August. Be warned that the treasures are only sweet ones.
The above are just a few suggestions for taking your kids down to the mall and keeping them amused. And if they're occupied you will be happy and far less stressed.
