Robots & Theatre Make Maths Learning Fun In Interactive Show
Educational theatre is the order of the day when robots, theatre. and maths combine in a feast of fun on the live stage. One Tenth Human & China Plate theatre company are to present a robot-filled interactive theatre show aimed at children aged between 8 and 11. We're Stuck!, which is embarking on a tour starting at the Lichfield Garrick theatre from March 22 to 25, will set out to take children on a fun, code-cracking adventure aimed at changing their attitude to learning.
We're Stuck! has been created by theatre-maker Sarah Punshon whose directing credits include popular television shows such as EastEnders, Doctors, and Shameless. It will feature performers Seiriol Davies (star of last year's Edinburgh Fringe smash hit How to Win Against History) and Daniel Bye. The 70-minute show will involve the young audience going on a special tour deep into the heart of fictional Volcano Industries where they get to meet cutting edge scientists struggling with some unusual and extremely tricky problems in their top-secret research lab. During the course of their tour they find themselves being presented with a range of difficult tasks which they have to try to solve.
Lichfield Garrick plays host to the fun learning show
We're Stuck! was developed through test workshops with the help of Maths on Toast, a charity that was founded to tackle the lack of opportunities for families to have fun doing maths in their local communities. Writer and director Sarah Punshon says: "After our successful run last year, we're thrilled to get the chance to bring We're Stuck! to loads more children across the country. It means we can bring our vital nonsense to kids who might think theatre isn't for them, that maths isn't for them, that they shouldn't set their aspirations sky-high – and maybe make a difference to their future."
Tim Ford, Artistic Director at the Lichfield Garrick, said: "We're delighted to be giving local audiences the chance to see this imaginative and engaging show. We're Stuck! teaches weird and wonderful facts and problem solving, but in such a creative way that it's accessible and really fun for everyone. We hope schools groups and families will take up the opportunity to help the cast get unstuck this March!" China Plate, which was launched in 2006, is an independent theatre studio that works with artists, venues, festivals and funders to make original, exciting theatre.
A young audience is expected during half-term week
We're Stuck!, which is supported by a Wellcome Trust Arts Award, will be appearing at the Lichfield Garrick from Wednesday 22 to Saturday 25 March at 10.30am and 1.30pm. Tickets cost £15 (adults) and £12 (children) and can be booked online or by calling the box office on 01543 412121.
