A sporting paradise. This extensive outdoor public sporting facility covers an impressive 100 acres of space and is owned by Leeds University. It is located in the Weetwood area which is 3 miles north of the main campus.
Facilities include floodlit hockey, 3G football and rugby pitches as well as 26 premier grade grass pitches which can be used for a variety of sports such as American Football, Ultimate Frisbee, Rounders and Lacrosse. Ow yer, did I forget to mention that changing rooms, equipment hire, a bar and BBQ facilities are also available for use, if you still have any energy after all that sport mind!
I have been playing football on these pitches for three years and have used the 3G, astro and 5 a side courts. As a public non-member I pay £5 per hour and have always found the pitches to be in good condition and the staff to be both friendly and helpful. These floodlit pitches are well marked, have new goal nets and stay open wind, rain or shine, only closing in snowy or icy conditions.
Also worth a mention is the Weetwood Hall Hotel, this four star hotel is ideally located on the playing fields site so is one to consider if you are a large team who have come down for a number of days to train or compete at the facilities. The hotel also runs a brilliant pub called The Stables, which is located in a separate building and has an excellent beer garden and a good selection of real ales. If you're thirsty after your game, you would be silly to miss this goal scoring opportunity.
As with all my review locations this is another gem-stone in a city which is full of them. If you are at all into sports or even just feel like watching you friends play then going for a pint, then this is the place to be. Work hard, play harder!
