After spending a few days outside London, I visited one of Derbyshire's popular cities, Derby.

What was refreshing about this city compared to London was its smaller size, which was surprisingly easy to walk around and a lovely stroll in the sun. Their 'quad', which is a small square located in the heart of the city, is where we looked for places to have lunch and came across Walkabout, Derby.

Recognising the chain Walkabout as a popular club venue, I was slightly apprehensive as to whether or not their food service aspect of the business will have been neglected a little, but this wasn't the case. The venue itself was lovely, very spacious with plenty of room between tables to ensure privacy whilst eating. On hotter days like when we arrived, they open their large double windows by the seating areas, offering a fantastic view over the cities square.

This Aussie bar based their food menu and beers on Australian favourites, offering hearty and substantial meals including BBQ wings, burgers and wraps. We decided to all make use of its daily lunch special, where for only £6.95 you can have a wrap or burger, with a choice of chips and a side salad and inclusive of a soft drink! To explore their other deals, visiting their website will allow you to browse their full menu, as well as check out your own local bar!

For me, I choose the chicken wrap with a side salad and chips. The portion sizes for a lunch menu was very generous, with chunky chips and a generous portion of salad with a slice of watermelon. The dish overall was flavoursome, filling and visually looked very nice. I think the lunch time menu is great for summer as all their ingredients are fresh and the price is incredible for the quality of food.

When day turns to night, the bar tends to be more popular than the food here, being a sports bar people come to watch live sports on their two large flat screens amongst the seating area. They also have an all-day available ping pong table, great to make use of whilst waiting for your food to arrive which is exactly what I did! With its chilled background music, friendly service and fairly basic but tasty meals, this place is perfect for a bite to eat with a great ambience to it.

If you're wanting to visit here late on, then the drinks are cheap too at typically £3.50 for an Aussie beer and £5 entry for the night - which is pretty reasonable for a City Centre. What's more, there's plenty of other bars located in the same 'quad' as Walkabout, so it's a great place to visit if you're wanting to experience more than just one bar.
