Sometimes you just want to escape the standard salads that you find yourself eating on a hectic workday at Pret and M&S. Don't get me wrong, you can't go past cheap and tasty, but why not turn it up a notch and head east to a delicious tapas bar with the works: Viva! Tapas & Bebidas in Shacklewell.

Situated on Stoke Newington Road amongst a strip of predominantly Turkish diners is Viva, providing a breath of fresh air to the otherwise customary Borough of Hackney.

At Viva! they pride themselves on sourcing fresh, responsible, organic and seasonal ingredients, to provide you with the best possible tapas dish to delectably enjoy with friends. There is also a no waste policy, and the venue does not use a microwave of frozen foods. All items are cooked on the day you order and eat it. Pretty impressive for our usual fast paced society.



I headed to this colourful cantina with some friends who live locally to the area. I was drawn in by the engaging unique decor which gives a bright spin on religious icons such as the Virgin Mary and Jesus. Don't let this put you off, the food is absolutely delicious.

We began with a liquid favourite, the house red, followed by a selection from their tapas menu. Following the must-have-wine order was the Tortilla chips and homemade guacamole, followed closely by The Taquitos which were soft blue corn tacos filled with succulent beef, jack cheese, coriander and homemade salsa, these looked a treat as did the Pot of spicy chorizo with Sweet Paprika, homemade tomato sauce, Rosemary and roasted garlic.

Topping off the gastronomic serving were the %%Huge Dutch mushrooms stuffed with spinach, garlic, roasted cashews & pecorino

The aromas were to die for and the food was presented in the most visually appetizing way. The colourful dishes complimented the decor of the venue and made us feel very happy and lively, not to mention super hungry.

The staff were very attentive and brought their own flair to the restaurant. I highly recommend you venture our to Stoke Newington Road and make a quick dash straight into the safe haven for your tummy and your sanity at Viva Tapas and Bebidas. You will not be disappointed.
