Craft Beer With No Nasty Surprises
If you are a vegetarian or a vegan then you no doubt are aware of the minefield your stepping into every time you go shopping. Seemingly vegetarian items often end up having animal products, as I myself found out while investigating 5 Foods Vegetarians Should Avoid.
When it comes to beer, you would expect the ingredients to include barely, hops, water, and yeast, but also lurking in some beers are isinglass and finings. Isinglass comes from the bladder of a fish, and is used to filter out the yeast, while finings is used to make beers clear by removing organic compounds. Finings is not suitable for vegans because it uses egg whites, milk, and blood.
A lot of the time, these ingredients aren't even listed, so vegetarians and vegans may have to forego a beer altogether. On the weekend of the 15th &16th November, however, you can sweep all your concerns to one side. The pop-up Craft Beer Social Club is holding a Vegan Beer Weekend at London Fields. They'll be serving nothing but good and hazy natural beers.
As well as drinks, The Mighty Fork are popping in to provide you with delicious 'junk food made healthy'. Their tofu wieners include The Big Chilli, Yasai Dog, Sauerkraut, Plane Jane, and Brew Dog. Their food is 100% plant based, has 0% cholesterol, and is low in fat.
The event is free to attend, but you need to reserve a space.
