Vannetta Seecharran School of Jewellery, based in Islington, London, focuses on teaching professional jewellery making techniques in a way that is fun and accessible to beginners and those who want to pursue jewellery as a hobby or as a profession.

My friend and I bought a deal online to go along and make our own silver charm bracelet. The deal at the time was 19, rather than the usual 49, but for a 3 hour class, I would have paid full price. The lesson was excellent and as we were only a class of 4, we were able to be given individual attention and guidance making our bracelets.

As a leading Jeweller and with many years' experience as an educator, Vannetta was very helpful and helped us as students understand the tools we had to use to make the various parts of our bracelets.

Even though the class is 3 hours, there never felt any pressure to hurry as at the end of the session you take your jewellery piece away with you to take home for yourself or as a gift for someone else (if they are lucky!)

Perfect afternoon or evening out to learn something new or a perfect present for a friend.

Each "short project" such as the charm bracelet lasts for 3 hours in the quirky basement of Vanetta's studio in Islington, however, if you enjoy one class, you can go back for more and even book a course of 5 classes (12.5 hours tuition) for 230.

I might just do that.
