Valentine's Day Dinner at Pickle & Rye

When thinking about where to go for that all-important Valentine's Day dinner, I doubt an American-themed cafe that sells sandwiches and hot drinks immediately springs to mind. Yet, Pickle & Rye - an American sandwich shop near Mortlake Station - is opening its doors for the evening of February 14th and offering a three-course set menu in honour of the romantic occasion.



For £26 per person, loved-up couples can choose from a starter of either 'mixed leaves with sherry-shallot vinaigrette and goat's cheese crostini' or 'roast carrot & chive soup with black pepper puff pastry'. That's followed by a main course of either 'corn-fed chicken breast wrapped in Parma ham and sage, potatoes dauphinoise, baby carrots, green beans and Madeira jus' or 'eggplant (that's aubergine to you and me) Parmesan with roast tomato chutney, frisee and salsa verde'. For dessert there's a mouthwatering choice of 'New York cheesecake with sour cherry compote' or 'warm brownie, vanilla ice cream and hot fudge sauce'. Sounds delicious!

It seems that ever since moving to their new, bigger premises last year, the owners of Pickle & Rye are keen to experiment with different ideas, and no doubt the Valentine's Day dinner, if successful, will be the first of many themed evenings at the popular establishment. Given how passionate they are about their daytime offerings, I've no doubt that the set menu will be just as fresh and tasty.
