To pick an event from the varied entertainments at the currently ongoing Underbelly Festival is no easy task. Yet the moment I read Rumba my eyes half close with my hips shimmying to the imaginary beat.

Rumba they say isn't for everyone, I pooh pooh this contention. If there is a style of music that speaks to us all, and gets us doing a bizarre sit down dance, well then its speaks for its self. Listen to this for the rest of the article and you'll know what I mean.

Rumba numba's from the 50s trailing right up to modern hits whilst flirting with salsa and reggaeton along the way, this is a masterclass in the greatest tunes from this genre. Live dance performances from Osvadys Ganza and critically acclaimed ladies man 'El Chico Divino' , Nice. With the backbone music performed by Sonora La Calle a further treat to tease you into this extravaganza, hailing from the world famous Buena vista social club; Eric Turro Martinez will dance the stage crazy with his hypnotic stylings from the genres best export.

I have a few Latin friends, they may scoff at my attempts at salsa rumba hip gyrating, but what is important is that I couldn't give a monkeys. Something stirs in me when this music starts to filter down my lug holes, and I bluddy like it, and so should you. Check out the Underbelly Festival on till July 8th and enjoy all the festivities, but my moneys on the Rumba.
