Swimming in Fruit Salad
How many different fruits do you think you could name? I thought that I was doing pretty well when I got up to about fifty - then I found out that there are about five-hundred thousand, eighty thousand of which are thought to be edible.
Yep, fruit is just full of surprises, and as part of their IncrEdibles season, Kew Gardens invites you to go on a fun fairground type ride: The Tutti Frutti Boating Experience. Designed by the mad, but marvellous jelly making duo, Bompas & Parr , Tutti Frutti explores the fascinating world of edible fruit, from the the humble to the exotic, from the sweetest smelling to the most odious.
Palm House Lake in Kew Gardens has been transformed into a giant fruit salad boat ride with artwork, dramatic installations, and a giant pineapple. For £4.50 (£2.50 for under 16s), you can hire a boat and get inside a giant bowl of fruit as you make your way to Pineapple Island. After that, take a wander below ground, and discover the secrets that lie in Banana Grotto.
The ride will be available until the 1st September, and should be booked in advance due to the limited number of boats available.
