The show, which was premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2019, is inspired by the true story of a series of broadcasts made to allied troops from cities under Japanese occupation during World War Two. Nicknamed Tokyo Rose by the Americans, the programmes featured female presenters broadcasting Japanese propaganda.
The musical takes us to 1949 when Japanese-American Iva Toguri stands charged with treason for being Tokyo Rose - but is the story as simple as it appears and is Iva really the villain she is being made out to be?
Coming to the Hippodrome's Patrick Studio on October 28-30, Tokyo Rose won The Edinburgh Untapped Award and the Les Enfants Terribles Stepladder Award. Formed in 2018, Burnt Lemon are a Hippodrome Associate and the tour is presented in association with the Hippodrome and MAST Mayflower Southampton.
