A fixie bike is one with no gears, and no freewheel, meaning that you can't do that thing where you stop peddling and the wheels keep going round and you just coast along, possibly with your hands off the handlebars. They're designed to run and run, and make all your core muscles: the ones that hold your stomach to your back, work hard while you're peddling, 'cause you control the bike using the peddles. So you can stop peddling to stop and peddle backwards if you so choose.

Why would you do this to yourself you might say, but if you're an urban cyclist you'll know why, and just want to know where to get hold of a super cool fixie.

is the answer. These guys started off with an online store, importing track frames from Tokyo, along with cool cycling gear not just for cycling but for cycling peeps. But they opened their Soho store in 2009 - when the London feel for fixies had started to spread out from just serious competition cyclists and bike couriers to cyclists who also had a penchant for style and cool design. As well as the beautiful, in bike terms and frames, also sells high end brakes and wheels, books, bags and other fixie kit.

They also have a custom build service where you can order all the parts you like and have your own bespoke bike built to your specs. How cool will you be then, eh?
