Time Travellers' Challenge at Tamworth Castle

Visitors to a medieval castle in Staffordshire are being invited to take on a new Time Travellers’ Challenge during the forthcoming school holidays. People of all ages who accept the challenge at Tamworth Castle will have to complete the quest by solving various riddles and clues. Tamworth Borough Council is inviting families to join the castle’s Time Travellers’ Challenge from Sunday 30 July to Sunday 3 September. Summer visitors will be invited on a quest to unlock the historical mistakes caused by a recent visit from a mischievous time traveller!

Questers will encounter several characters on their journey who will provide a unique word for each task completed. All riddles can be found within the castle rooms, and linked to the time traveller who created a series of historical blunders within the castle. Tamworth Castle needs your help to rectify these historical inaccuracies before they permanently threaten the space-time continuum and create an irrevocable time-shift paradox!



Families will be encouraged to explore the castle and see if they can find the historical errors and find out the reason behind the time traveller’s actions. Questers must reveal their completed quiz sheet to the Quest Master to receive the opportunity to complete the ultimate grid; blindfolded! The challenge is included in the normal admission price as part of the castle self-led tour.

The castle is open Tuesdays to Saturdays from 9.30am to 4.30pm, with the last entry at 2.30pm. Sundays and Bank Holidays from 10.00 am – 4pm, last entry at 2pm. Admission is priced at: adults: £9.95, OAP £8.95. children aged between 2 - 15 years old: £7.50, children under 2 years old are free. Tamworth Borough Council is also offering a free Augmented Reality Trail – Love Tamworth Trail, for families to download and enjoy around the town centre. Embark on the trail to explore the town’s history and seek out 11 virtual tokens by completing mini games at key locations. Children can collect a prize from the castle gatehouse shop and adults can enter a monthly prize draw. The app comes with a fully interactive map and guide on how to access each point. Simply follow the map to the correct locations then scan the location with your phone and wait for the magic to happen!
