Making Pictures Come to Life
Tim Walker's Humpty Dumpty Photography
Tim Walker is an awe-inspiring fashion photographer. His work is like nothing I have seen before; he uses elaborate set designs, vivid colour, and dramatic themes. His photography is truly cinematic. To create his visions he employs set designers, make-up artists, producers, costume designers, and builders, just as if he were creating a real film.
Over a 175 of his works of art will be on display at Somerset House until the 27th January. With giant grotesque dolls, and life size replicas of a spitfire model, it will be more like walking onto a film set than a photo gallery. For this reason, it is probably no surprise to hear that a lot of his work has been inspired by film. Over the course of the exhibition, there will be several film showings of movies that influenced his work. These include A Matter of Life and Death on the 3rd of November and The Wizard of Oz on the 8th December. Both start at 2pm and tickets are £8. Admission to the exhibition itself is free, and is open between 10am-6pm. On the 8th and 29th November & 6th, 13th and 20th December it will remain open till 9pm.
