Whether you are looking for something to do on your own, with the whole family or a group of friends, here are the top things to do in Southampton in the rain:

Get competitive

Nothing takes your mind off miserable weather than winning at a cheeky game! Kids, big ones and little ones will love playing against each other at High Score Arcade . Just pay for entry and the rest is free to play as you want! There are loads of driving games, shooting games, basketball, pinball, bowling, reaction games, air hockey, the list goes on! High Score Arcade is located on East Street, and they now also have a pop-up arcade located in West Quay Shopping Centre.



Continuing with the gaming theme, try out 1st Base Baseball , a unique baseball experience right in the city. Using state-of-the-art technology you can now step up and bat like any Major League Baseball star. No experience is necessary and can be played individually or as part of a group.

Fancy something a bit slower paced? Check out Geek Retreat where you can grab a milkshake and your favourite board game whilst you slurp away. Or pick up a controller and play retro games consoles such as PlayStation 1, Nintendo Cube or the much loved Wii!

How about a game of Bingo? Buzz Bingo will keep you entertained for hours with various games throughout the day, especially with their food service and bar available.



Take it up a level and find yourself in Grosvenor Casino where you'll also find their entertainment, restaurant and bar.

When it really is dull outside, get locked up inside with one of the many Escape Room experiences in Southampton. From Elusion Escape Rooms , Other World Escapes , Locked in a Room to Sneaky Dog Escapes for a Virtual Reality escape, there is an experience out there that would grab your attention.

Retail therapy

One of the biggest shopping centres in the south of the UK, West Quay Southampton is right in the heart of the city. There is no better way to escape the wet weather with some retail therapy and happy tummies; there are hundreds of shops, boutiques, food vendors, restaurants and cafes inside.

There is also Marlands Shopping Centre with a big range of shops and dining options - you could easily lose a few hours in here!

Get that adrenaline rush

Located at Eastleigh, challenge your best time at indoor karting at Team Sport Southampton . With their 375m track and 200cc go-karts, there is some serious high-octane fun to be had. Free parking on-site, minimum age of 8 years and food available to complete the experience.



Kids and adults alike can burn off some excess energy at Flip Out Southampton on their rows of Jump Trampolines, Wipeout zone, Fun House, Drop Slide, Air Bag and much more!

Feel like climbing the walls with the weather? Literally, climb the purpose-built walls at Parthian Climbing and feel that frustration fall at your feet - just don't follow it down!

Grab a seat at the show

Who needs to travel to London for a West End performance? The Mayflower Theatre is the biggest theatre along the south coast and is absolutely stunning inside. As the theatre is so big, it's not often that shows are a complete sellout, so ideal to get that last-minute tickets because the weather is not behaving itself!

What about a super comfy seat at the Showcase Cinema de Lux . We can honestly say that these are the roomiest, most comfortable cinema seats we have ever enjoyed a film from. Or how about the Harbour Lights Picturehouse that shows both mainstream and more eccentric, creative films.



Jet get soaked anyway

Got caught in the rain? Make the most of it and head to The Quays Swimming and Diving Complex . This public pool is a popular spot for families. Check out their website for times when their giant floating inflatables are up for some serious fun splashing about.
What about a bit of wild swimming ? No one actually said you need to stay indoors when it's raining!

Fancy a bit of pampering? Check out day spas at the Southampton HarSpa for some 5-star treatment or the Rena Spa at Leonardo Royal Southampton Grand Harbour - both waterfront locations.



Learn something new

Southampton is steeped in history. Visit The Tudor House , Southampton's most important historic building, or the SeaCity Museum that tells the story of the people of the city, their fascinating lives and historic connections with Titanic and the sea.

There is also the Southampton City Art Gallery that offers high-quality exhibitions ranging from painting, sculpture and drawing, to photography and film. The Mayflower Studios are a constantly changing exhibition of creative arts and shows, offering something for everyone.



Or why not visit one of the many Southampton Libraries to curl up next to the window and get stuck into a good novel. Perfect for something to do when it's bucketing it down.
