As we get closer to autumn, enjoy the last of this year's summer and check out some of the top outdoor events and activities in London this September. The Tower of London Food Festival and Japan Matsuri Festival are bound to be a hit amongst the foodies out there, while London Fashion Week is not to be missed by budding fashionistas. There's also Luna Cinema, the UK's leading open-air cinema; and fun attractions like Legoland.

1. Tower of London Food Festival

From Friday 13th to Sunday 15th September, the Tower of London will be taken over by a food festival. After exploring the iconic castle, head to the moat for mouth-watering street food, live music, and demonstrations from top chefs such as José Pizarro, Marcus Bean, Luciana Berry and Emily Roux. Feel free to bring your children along with you – there are plenty of activities to keep them entertained, from cooking sessions to building boats to playing giant chess to snuggling up in the book corner.

When: 12th - 15th September
Where: The Tower of London, London EC3N 4AB
Cost: £24.70 for adults, £19.70 for concessions, £11.70 for children aged 5-15, and free for under 5s

2. Japan Matsuri Festival

London's very own festival of Japanese culture returns to Trafalgar Square for 2019. Expect delicious Japanese food, traditional Japanese music and dance, and activities that the whole family can take part in, for example manga cartoon drawing, origami and calligraphy. The festival is free and runs from 10am to 8pm, so you can come and go as you please.

When: 29th September
Where: Trafalgar Square, London WC2N 5DN
Cost: Free

3. London Fashion Week

If you didn't manage to get front row tickets to this year's London Fashion Week, don't worry – there are still a number of events open to the public throughout the weekend. Head to 180 The Strand where you can attend a catwalk show, spot celebrities and well-known influencers, and peruse collections of designer clothes and accessories from over 150 brands.

When: 13th - 17th September
Where: The Store X, 180 Strand, London WC2R 1EA
Cost: £135 for standard tickets, £245 for front row tickets

4. Legoland

Legoland may be out of London, but it's only an hour's drive from the centre of the city. If you want to take your kids to Legoland, September is the best time to go as it will be less crowded due to many schools starting again, and the weather is still decent. Legoland is a theme park with rides and models that revolve entirely around Lego. Visitors can learn to drive a Lego car, climb the treehouses in the adventure playground, or brave The Dragon rollercoaster. Be sure to check out the amazing Lego models that are located throughout the park, including replicas of famous European and London landmarks, such as Buckingham Palace and Big Ben.

When: Open from 10am to 5pm or 6pm, depending on the day
Where: Legoland Windsor Park Ltd, Winkfield Road, Windsor, Berkshire, SL4 4AY
Cost: £29pp if you buy tickets online

5. The Luna Cinema

Catch a film after a long day at work with The Luna Cinema this month before the season is over. Highlights include recent blockbusters like Bohemian Rhapsody or First Man at Battersea Park or Rocketman at Walpole Park in Ealing, as well as classics like Hook at Brockwell Lido. Doors open around 6:00pm, with films showing from either 7:45 or 8:00, and tickets cost from £15.

When: Various dates throughout September
Where: Various venues across London
Cost: From £15 per ticket
