The prime spot at the corner of Colmore Row and Victoria Square should be a successful one but over recent years, the venue has repeatedly changed hands. Will a new bar with dancefloor change that trend?

Lobster restaurant Nosh & Quaff had a good try there and after it closed, it became Jailbird, which shut down in January. Now the owner of Snobs nightclub, Wayne Tracey, is taking on the challenge.

He's opened a new bar called Theatrix at the two-floor premises for a more upmarket offering than its well-known nightclub in Hurst Street.

Theatrix has already been nicknamed 'Snobs for suits' as it is in the heart of the financial district of Colmore Row and directly opposite Birmingham Council House.

The upper floor has a dance floor complete with shining disco ball and will be open from 10.30pm until 2.30am every Friday and Saturday so revellers can dance away the night with the DJ.

If upstairs is for dancing, it's the bar downstairs that focuses on relaxing over a drink or snack and will be open every day from 11am until 11pm.

Set in a Grade II listed building, Theatrix has a decadent air with high-ceilings and huge windows that look over to the grandeur of Victoria Square. This location should be ideal when the German Market is on over Christmas and visitors want to head elsewhere when the stalls close.

The makeover has brought out touches of Victoriana and steampunk with glossy tiling on the walls and bar and historic touches in the decor.

While huge lampshades are like works of art hanging from the ceiling to give it a more modern edge.

There's a wide range of beers, wines and cocktails on offer to add to a lengthy gin menu, keeping in with the current buzz for gin and tonics. Beer wise, it is stocked up from a variety of small and large breweries including San Miguel, London Fields Brewery and Backyard Brew.

Theatrix is set to also use the upstairs room for live music, booking a range of local artists for regular free live music.

On top of that, there themed nights to mark special occasions from St Patrick's Day to Oktoberfest.

It's got everything going for it with stylish premises, an ideal central spot and the added bonus of a dancefloor that will keep people entertained until the early hours on Friday and Saturday nights. Maybe Theatrix will be the venue that is here to last at this fated site.
