Combing Poetry and Art

David Robilliard is a poet who moved to London in 1975. He has published a number of books and postcards, as well as appearing in publications such as The Fred, Square Peg, and The Manipulator. Robilliard became interested in pursuing art after he met and became friends with Gilbert & George.

Gilbert Prousch and George Passmore are a collaborative art duo well known for their suit & tie attire, which contrasts their much more bombastic and colourful photographic works. They also produced a film called The World of Gilbert & George (1981), which Robilliard appeared in.

Now appearing in his first institutional exhibition in twenty years, David Robilliard presents The Yes No Quality of Dreams at the Institute of Contemporary Arts. The figurative works use extracts from his poems in coded messages that allude to intimate sexual encounters and evoke imagery of 1980s queer culture.

The exhibit will be open until the 15th June, and has various events accompanying it, such as Pick-Me-Ups & Pick-Ups, in which other artists have been asked to contribute textural pieces to be presented over readings and wine. 'Get Off My Back Will You and Give Someone Else a Chance' is a workshop for 16-19 year olds to explore alternative forms of poetry.
