Social media, the internet and other sources have brought the World together with the ability to watch their country's teams playing sport at home and abroad.
The FIFA World Cup , or as it is favourably now called The World Cup, is an international football competition which is fought out on the field every four years. The current champion is Germany. The format of the competition is that a qualification phase takes place over the preceding three years to determine which teams qualify for the tournament phase. It becomes quite exciting when your Country moves up the ladder and closer to success each year with improvements and skill in their techniques.
Although the game is called football in most parts of the world, it hasn't always been the case and in America and Australia, the game is known as
Soccer . According to a paper written by
Professor Stefan Szymanski of the
University of Michigan , the word "soccer" is a British invention, which originally comes from the term "association football" going back 200 years in British history. However, it does not matter what it is called for the enthusiasm and pride the game brings to a nation far surpasses any controversy over its name.
From the 14th June to 15 July 2018, you can be part of the excitement as you watch the games and your favourite teams compete in the qualifying rounds and finals on the big screen at the
Water Poet Pub in London. Come down and enjoy a scrumptious Sunday Roast in the large beer garden and cheer on with family and friends. Tables can be booked in advance and entry to the pub is free.
Match Day Date Time Teams Channel can be read on their Facebook
