The White Swan on the outskirts of Harborne, entering Edgbaston, is a hidden gem of a gastro pub. The atmosphere is inviting, relaxing, and heart-warming, often on a summer's day you can enjoy a glass of wine on the outside seating underneath the umbrellas for shade.

Walking in, you'll feel completely at home and comfortable with the modern-but not too modern decor and the friendly staff. However, this is not your average pub restaurant.

The soft shell crab for starters blew my mind, very delicate and light sticky sweet flavours that I could have eaten twice. The blade of beef as a main with horseradish mash potato is a favourite that I have since ordered several times more on repeat visits. The most tender, perfectly cooked melt in your mouth beef that is complimented, surprisingly with mash potato flavoured with the right amount of horseradish to wake up your mouth. The chefs know how to cook beef and how to cook it well.

Now the desert... *pauses for silence for a dramatic climax*

Was something of a dream, everything that you want a chocolate brownie dessert to be, rich chewy thick stodgy, with the perfect vanilla ice cream that did its job - cleaned your mouth with its light creamy never puts a foot wrong flavour, but was a dessert in its own right, speckled with vanilla and drizzled in rich chocolate sauce. Heaven.

If you're planning a special celebration, a birthday, a long overdue family get together, then make a group booking for the table with the sheepskin chairs. It's a bit spesh.
