The pop stars of the 80s to align in castle grounds
The very best of the 1980s music scene is coming to a splendid setting in the grounds of a medieval Staffordshire castle this summer. Singing sensations ranging from Belinda Carlisle and Howard Jones to Boney M and Toyah Willcox will celebrate the popular '80s era with a live music festival in Tamworth Castle Grounds on August 13. The music extravaganza forms part of a three week programme of activities over the summer which have been organised by Tamworth Borough Council's Arts and Events team. The mammoth party in the park concert in the grounds of Tamworth Castle will bring together the cream of 80s pop stars and bands. As well as Belinda Carlisle, Howard Jones, Toyah and Boney M, music fans will also be treated to seeing and hearing Tom Bailey of The Thompson Twins, The Fizz, and Katrina of Katrina and the Waves.
Tamworth Arts and Events, by arrangement with Tony Denton Promotions, will be presenting Here and Now, The Very Best of the 80s, as part of a UK tour that will be entertaining audiences across the country. Adey Ramsel, theatre, artistic and events manager at Tamworth Arts, said: "We're really excited to announce that The Here and Now, Very Best of the 80s tour, will be coming to Tamworth Castle Grounds this August. These original 80's artists will be performing in our beautiful grounds and guarantee to get the audience partying and singing along to their iconic tunes. This is the first announcement of three main headlining shows and live entertainment that is coming to the Castle Grounds for a fantastic three week celebration of activities this summer. Tickets for the 80s music festival are already on sale priced at £37.50 for adults and £27.50 for youngsters aged 10-17 with a full paying accompanying adult. Children aged 9 and under go free. Gates will open from 5pm with an 80's disco from 5.30pm before the live concert starts at 7pm. The three week events of sport and entertainment in Tamworth Castle Grounds is designed to celebrate the Birmingham Commonwealth Games coming to the region this summer with a series of live music events, broadcasts, screenings, professional sports events, community outreach and arts events, running from July 20 to August 13.
