Ever wondered what that giant purple cow grazing behind the London Eye is? It's the Udderbelly! Each summer the 400-seat temporary venue provides a vast array of entertainment, from outlandish cabaret to daytime children's shows and the biggest selection of comedy in London.

Beside the big upside down cow there is a large outdoor bar and selection of food stalls which can be enjoyed without a ticket. This temporary venue is here to stay for 3 months, from April 7th until 8th July. What better way to spend the summer?

This huge upside down purple cow might be a slightly strange place to hold an arts, comedy and music festival, but it really is one of the best places to see live performances during spring and summer in London. The Udderbelly Festival London events follow successful Udderbelly stints at the Brighton and Edinburgh festivals, and there's an eclectic programme to tempt fans of live performance into the Southbank Centre.

Comic acts feature heavily on the Udderbelly Festival London programme, with both world famous and underground talent vying for your laughs. Established acts from the London comedy circuit such as Tim Minchin, Pete Firman and Carl Donnelly are taking to the stage, alongside Comedy Store regulars and television stars such as Rufus Hound, Arthur Smith, Richard Herring, Sean Hughes and Gina Yashere.

Other highlights of this year's E4 Udderbelly Festival include The Vocal Orchestra, an hour of outstanding musical entertainment created by beatboxing sensation and World Loop-Station champion Shlomo. Featuring seven human voices in the place of conventional orchestral instruments, the concert showcases the talents of some of the world's most exciting beat boxers. As well as this musical treat, there are other alternative fringe events such as the Frisky and Mannish cabaret show and ventriloquism with Nina Conti and her and foul-mouthed puppets.

There's plenty of events for young children and families at Udderbelly too, a perfect family outing during the school holidays or weekends. One highlight is a stage adaptation of Julia Donaldson's Tiddler and Other Terrific Tales, a theatre experience perfect for kids over the age of three.
