A pub with its heart in the local community
This pub isn't just for its community, it celebrates it. Taking in the creativity of the area it is based in, namely Hackney, The Star of Hackney Downs is a pub rejuvenated by its surroundings and its people.
With the theme being that of a Victorian Circus, it is fitting that this pub is located just opposite Hackney Downs Park, like it has just settled to pitch up a tent and enthral all-comers to its attractions. And talking about them...
There are djs, with nights covering everything from rock n' roll through to disco classics and golden years hip hop. If you prefer to join in rather than listen, there is the karaoke room to contend with. A room with a station provided by specialists "Lucky Voice" means you can be confident your singing ability will be accurately reflected.
If it's something a little less musical you are looking for, these are the events for you. There is the popular pub quiz, a weekly life drawing session on the top floor of the venue, a fantastic brunch menu, and of course the obligatory Sunday Roast.
With bookable rooms for your own private parties, and such community-minded initiatives as "Workers Wednesday", with discounts given to locals, you seemingly can't go wrong at this place. Go join them, the circus is in town and everyone, especially locals, are invited.
