Sneeky Fox presents The Record Store at Spotlight on the second Thursday of December. It sounds self-explanatory right? Well in short, The Record Store is a DJ's haven and a music lovers Nirvana. Head down and you get the chance to swap, sample and buy other records. But it is not a business transaction, neigh dear reader, it is a social session for record lovers.
Spotlight transforms itself from cool club to hip and happening record-loving venue. Expect a variety, cool cats and indie kids that know what they're about: they know what music they like, they know what they're after and there are talented, resident DJ's that provide a soundtrack to your night.
The Record Store is somewhat of a secret, an underground whisper that provides opportunity for those in the know. If you think it sounds like a members only club, good, because The Record Store prides itself on its elusive nature.
That's not to say it it won't be a busy night. It is mostly full of DJ's, but not music snobs or groupies, but people who enjoy, and celebrate music. (not quite as brazenly as that may I add, they're too cool for that). So consider yourself lucky when you head down, having a sneak peek into the music of DJ's up and down the country, and an exclusive insight into some of the best music on the UK scene.
If you're a budding DJ, or established and seeking something different The Record Store does not disappoint. Every record lover has the chance to listen to new tracks, play your own record on the decks/turntables, and the chance to buy what you like.
If you see this as mostly a business opportunity then I would say reconsider, this is not a place about transaction. The Record Store is not about pressure; it is somewhere for people to try before they buy, test drive records, and decide if they do want that track.
At Digbeth's most up and coming venue, that is slowly becoming famous for the Digbeth Dining Club, and various other events, Spotlight club in Digbeth is your new favourite.
Sneeky Fox insists this is the most relaxed event going. Consider it a great place to meet other DJ's, socialise with like-minded folk who are 'about the music'. Or evens an after-work venue, a laugh with your mates, a casual night that will have you wishing you'd discovered it sooner.
