In the year 2000 London gained yet another major landmark in the form of the London Eye. At the time it was the biggest ferris wheel in the world and it has become a massive tourist attraction. Aesthetically The London Eye is certainly eye catching and makes a good addition to London's skyline, but in terms of paying to ride, is it really that worth it?

To briefly outline a trip on the London Eye, first of all you buy your ticket online for 31 (or you queue up there and pay more). You turn up and, after a brief queue you climb aboard a pod and make the slow ascent. I wouldn't say anything about the London Eye is particularly breathtaking. In blue skies the view is pretty spectacular and it certainly is a wonderful experience to see the full scope of the city, but the ascent is rather long and once you're halfway up you can see pretty far across London already. Past that point and everything just gets a bit smaller; you can see more areas, some that you might not particularly want to see.

I would say as a location for private or corporate events the London Eye is quite special. They offer a private capsule for 460 but unless you have a guaranteed amount joining you I cannot for a minute imagine that would be worth the money. What is worth the money is to hire a capsule with champagne cocktails included. It is only a little bit more per head than a standard ticket and that way you can actually enjoy a small drinks party with friends while taking in the views of London.

Something else that the London Eye would be very good for, something that I have not yet tried, is a location for something romantic. You could get a standard ticket and then propose at the top, which I saw being done, or if it's affordable you could fork out the extra cash and get a champagne cocktail for two at sunset.

The London Eye certainly is a valuable addition to London. It allows us to rise above the city and see beautiful views and sunsets. I would just hasten to say that in order to get the best out of the Eye it would be best to get a group together and have a cocktails party, or in the very least visit it when the weather's good. It's definitely not worth it in bad weather.
