Do you live in the Woking area, or fancy visiting, and want the opportunity to learn more about the town? The Lightbox, designed by Marks Barfield Architects, famous for the design of the London Eye, is an eye catching gallery space with an interactive museum called 'Woking's Story', which teaches children, and parents, more about the area.
In addition, the three gorgeous galleries host a range of exhibitions which change regularly; sometimes they feature a contemporary local or nationally famous artist, and other times include items loaned from major museums.
If you're looking for things to do this Easter holiday, The Lightbox is ideal. Hands-on events available for kids and their families include 'Spring Paper Hats' on the 3rd of April, 'Spring Paper Garlands' on the 5th of April, 'Rainbow Windows' on the 9th of April and '6th Annual Seed Pots' on the 11th of April. For all events, you can drop in anytime from 1.30pm - 4.00pm. Entry is free, with a suggested donation of £2.
Currently at The Lightbox you will find the 'Elisabeth Frink: A Retrospective' exhibition, which features many of Frink's most important works with photography, correspondence and personal items. Some of these items are in fact being displayed for the first time.
In addition, the 'Woking Schools Centrepiece Exhibition' is beginning on the 3rd of April till the 14th. This exhibition will feature original works of art by students from seven local schools.
So for free fun this Easter, come and learn about the town of Woking, and get involved with the exhibitions and activities on offer. I'm planning to visit in the coming week, and will submit a full review of my visit, so keep an eye out, and remember to check the website of The Lightbox for future exhibition dates.
