Dynamic New York duo The Last Internationale bring their intoxicating offering of heavy blues and intense riffs to the Hare & Hounds in Kings Heath, Birmingham, on March 18, 2020.

Bassist/ vocalist Delila Paz and guitarist Edgey Pires will showcase tracks from their latest album, Soul On Fire, their first since they parted company with Epic Records.

Despite releasing a debut album, We Will Reign, on the Sony-owned label in 2014, they admit they subsequently experienced as many low points in their career as highs, forcing them to seriously consider their future."We had to make that dreaded decision of whether to quit or continue the long battle that seemed more impossible than ever. Although our physical and mental health was quickly deteriorating, we reminded ourselves that there are people in the world who are much worse off than us and that we are actually in a very fortunate position where we can continue to use our voices to uplift people and expose injustice."

Leaving a major label and going back to basics to make Soul On Fire independently proved to be positive, rather than negative.
"What appeared to be a tragedy instantly turned into a blessing and an opportunity to trust ourselves and once again embrace the DIY spirit that this band is about," Edgey says. "For example, the video for the Soul On Fire track was shot by us and a few friends and was edited and directed by us. The New York City running scenes are essentially documentary footage, as Delila was still very ill at the time. Running in NYC woke up our soul and fed our fighting spirit."

Self-produced in the Estudios de Bandeira in Portugal, Soul On Fire features Joey Castillo from Queens of The Stone Age on drums and introduces a more complex, full-bodied sound across the 12 tracks. Fans have embraced its raw, gritty and rough-around-the-edges feel, and along the way the duo have attracted some influential admirers.

Album executive producer Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine, Audioslave, Prophets Of Rage) says: "The Last Internationale are one of my favourites in the next wave of rebel rockers. They're raw and real and mix East Village rock sensibilities with Battleship Potemkin firepower."

The band's forthcoming headlining gigs also come off the back of a successful run of UK dates as special guests to The Cult and Rival Sons.
