The Jugged Hare - Bistro pub
After a brief glimpse at The Jugged Hare's menu you might easily be forgiven for half expecting Henry VIII to make a grand entrance with his latest squeeze hanging from his arm.
Further with the focus on spit roasts, grilled meat, ale and wine you wouldn't be far off envisaging a lute-playing court jester circling you to the dulcet tones of Greensleeves.
However, upon entry you soon realise that The Jugged Hare, though retaining its authenticity – is somewhat more of a modern styled banquet. Yes, you will see animal heads looming over you as you consume your meal, and yes meat selections can vary from rabbit, to game, to pigeon and boar – but the quality and service is far from 'behind the times'.
The carnivores amongst you will love this extravagant spit-roasting, grilling, satisfying meat feast experience with interesting décor (the whisky barrel tables at the bar are certainly different). But with only a daily special option for vegetarians this one will be best suited for the meat eaters.
Generous portions and friendly service, a clear winner for meat and wine lovers – as long as a touch of taxidermy won't put you off your food.
