The Gruffalo is the much-loved monster who has captured the hearts and minds of babies, toddlers and children for nearly 20 years. This magical book, penned by former Children's Laureate Julia Donaldson MBE and illustrated by Axel Scheffler, was first published in 1999 and is the story of the Gruffalo's encounter with a daring brown mouse. Only 10 months old, my little one is already a huge fan of the book. Pull it out from the shelf and a huge grin appears on his face.
Mouse and monster have become stars of stage and screen. Since 2001, theatre company Tall Stories have been performing
The Gruffalo to hordes of delighted fans around the world - from London's West End to the Sydney Opera House.
The exciting news is that
The Gruffalo is returning to the stage this summer.
For fans aged 3 and older, the 55 minute show won't fail to delight. The tour begins in June in Colchester and ends in January 2018 in Salford. The show will be at the Richmond Theatre 18-20 August. Tickets for the Richmond shows are £15.15.
In case the story of the Gruffalo has somehow passed you by, it's the story of a little brown mouse who goes for a walk in the 'deep dark wood'. The mouse comes across several hungry animals who want him for their lunch. The cunning mouse declines the offer, explaining that he's off to meet his friend the Gruffalo, who coincidentally might just want to eat them. As the mouse scares off the fox, owl and snake with tales of the Gruffalo, the mouse is rather pleased with himself as he knows that 'There's no such thing as a Gruffalo!'. Well, that is, until he meets the Gruffalo! I won't give away the ending.
The Gruffalo has also been made into an animated film featuring the voices of James Corden as the mouse, as well as Helena Bonham Carter, Rob Bryden and Tom Wilkinson.
If you have children who are Gruffalo fans, this is not to be missed. It's a wonderful book and will no doubt delight the hoards of children (and adults) who are lucky enough to see it.
