The Goons are back in a new stage show of the classic comedy
The comedy legends that are The Goons are being wonderfully revived in a new live stage show. The Apollo Theatre Company, who recently produced the critically acclaimed 50th anniversary tour of Round the Horne, have done it again by creating another radio comedy classic live on stage in the form of The Goon Show. And comedy fans in the Midlands will be among those around the country to see it in person when it is performed at the New Alexandra Theatre in Birmingham on September 18 and Lichfield Garrick theatre on Saturday 13 October.

In 1951 the landscape of British comedy changed dramatically when The Goon Show first burst onto the airwaves of the BBC Home Service. The leading performers of Spike Milligan, Peter Sellers and Harry Secombe, together with fellow comedian Michael Bentine in the first couple of years, brought a brand of surreal and chaotic humour unlike anything that had been heard before and revolutionised the way radio comedy was produced. The Goon Show ran until 1960, attracting audiences in the millions who were introduced to a variety of bizarre characters such as Eccles, Bluebottle, Neddie Seagoon, Count Jim Moriarty and Major Denis Bloodnok. The show captured the imagination of the British public and made household names of Milligan, Sellers and Secombe, who all went on to achieve worldwide fame.
