I am a big fan of independent cinemas, especially my local, The Hyde Park Picture House, so I was delighted when my boyfriend suggested that we try The , another independent my boyfriend had visited before and highly recommended. Built in an old garage, this cinema is more than 100 years old.

Cottage Road accepts the Orange Wednesdays deal, so along with presenting our student cards, the tickets only cost £2 each. Full price, the tickets are still only about £5. The snacks are also cheaper and much more varied than your standard Odeon or Vue. I enjoyed a ginger beer during the film. My boyfriend also commented that the popcorn was much fresher than he had experienced at other cinemas, too.

Depending on the time of year and the time of day (during my visit, the screen was almost empty), the cinema can be quite busy. My boyfriend commented that when he went to see Skyfall with a friend in October, the screen had been full to the brim. Visiting in June/July time, however, means that there are hardly any students and you will have total monopoly of the cinema seats.
