It is time to start stocking up on your Daz detergent and getting those whites whiter than white, because in just one month's time you'll be needing a dazzling squeaky clean shirt.
No, you aren't attending a formal dinner party, you are entering the
London Colour Run . In the craziest five kilometres of your life, you'll start off white as a dove and end up looking like a packet of Skittles.
Taking place at the
Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park on the 28th September, it is perfect for those who are not yet ready to say goodbye to our bright cheery summer.
The colour run is an international event held in twenty-seven countries, and since its debut in 2012 has exploded in popularity from six hundred thousand participants to over a million. That's probably because it is all about having fun. It promotes healthy living through positive energy and happiness, rather than focussing on the fitness aspect. You can choose to walk, jog, or run, and there is no timer, making it ideal for newbies. Over 60% of participants are first-time runners.
Another thing that probably encourages more people to sign up than other running events, is how straight forward it is. Most runs are for charity; as worthy as a cause as that is, some people can be put off by the idea of having to go round asking for sponsorships, and then having to collect everything at the end of it. The Colour Run gives you the choice. If you want to raise money, send off for a 'Save the Children Charity Place', which costs £15 plus postage. If you don't want that hassle, just run for fun, and order a solo pack (£25 plus postage) or a team pack (£23 plus postage).
And for those worried about ruining their best whites. Don't worry, the washerwoman will get over it. The coloured powder is made from 100% natural cornstarch and easy to wash out.
