To paraphrase Dorothy: 'There is no place like London.' I hope I can convince you of that here. Also check out my blog at damselwithadulcimer.wordpress.com and my theatre reviews at www.playstosee.com

Don't worry if you haven't managed to get tickets for the 2012 Olympics in London this summer. Instead you could indulge in some English eccentricity and join in with The Chap Olympiad. This tweed and trouser crease event will take place in Bedford Square over the weekend of 7 and 8 July and could well prove to be a lot more fun than the sporting occasion further east at Stratford later in the month.

Among the contests on offer you could compete in the pipeathlon, join in with iron board surfing, tug the tip of your handlebar moustache, throw cucumber discus sandwiches, and joust with umbrellas whilst seated on a bicycle, using a reinforced Daily Telegraph as a shield.

If this sounds far too sporty and energetic you could just be a spectator whilst drinking your Pimm's in the rain.

Tweed trousers with sharp creases are not obligatory, and chapettes are welcome to join the chaps on this anarcho-dandyish occasion. At least the traffic will be a lot less congested around this Bloomsbury tongue-in-cheek event.

These are just a few of the chaps and chapettes from previous years.

Bedford Square is within walking distance of tube stations Goodge Street, Tottenham Court Road and Russell Square and is close to several bus routes.
