It's surprisingly hard to find a good pub off High Street Kensington. In fact it's surprisingly hard to find a pub up this end of the road at all. But The Builders Arms isn't just a pub, it's a good pub. So why haven't you heard about it you may ask? Well it's off a side street so it's a bit secret, which makes it all the more friendly for the people who do know where it is.
For the Builders is a local pub. Yes, the locals here are better-off than a lot of us, but they're still locals, and this pub still has a local pub atmosphere.
As well as having a friendly atmosphere and way better than average food, what the Builders does well is selection – they always have more than a few different real ales and ciders on tap and the wine list is good. The Builders is right next to Richmond University, so possibly the ciders are for the students and the ales and wines more for the well-to-do locals.
Monday night they host a free stand up comedy night, on Tuesday they do a Wine Club, which means the club wine is discounted and in summer – or other temperate times - you can sit outside. It's not a beer garden, more of a beer paved-front-garden, but it's very nice all the same and the street is very quiet considering how close it is to High Street Kensington.
