A new production of the smash hit musical, The Boy Friend, is about to hit the West End, but this one has a special twist.
The Boy Friend, is a musical written by Sandy Wilson, and its original London run was in 1954. Set in the French Riviera in the 1920s, it follows the lives and first loves of a group of young girls living in Madame Dubonnet's School for Young Ladies. It's all singing, all dancing, with a touch of romance and a lot of comedy, there is definitely something for everyone. As you would probably guess from the title, it is all about their Boyfriends or lack of Boyfriends, and the lengths they will go to get one!
This new version is produced by theatre company,
Eyebrow Productions , but this performance is a little more unusual than your average musical.
Eyebrow Productions are taking part in
Showtime Challenge , where they have just 48 hours to fully rehearse and perform a full-scale musical. So instead of learning lines and dance routines, all the performers can do nothing but panic until just two days before the curtain goes up!
But why on earth would the performers and directors put themselves through such stress? Well, all of the proceeds from this unique performance will go to
The Prince's Foundation for Children and The Arts . This charity provides experiences and events within the arts for children and young people who don't normally have the opportunity.
Eyebrow Productions have been running for around 10 years, with a focus on providing opportunities for new writers and up and coming actors. They have successfully completed other Showtime Challenges including, Sweet Charity at The Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, and Me And My Girl and Crazy For You at the London Palladium. Their previous work received rave reviews, with no reports of performers sleeping on the job, so there is proof at can be done, and with great success.
The Boy Friend will be performed for one night only at Her Majesty's Theatre on May 8th, 2011. Tickets are on sale now, so if you are a theatre lover, this is an opportunity not to be missed, and you get to help out a charity at the same time.
Tickets and more information can be found
