The mission of the festival is to get everyone out there drawing, not matter what age or ability. The organisers have heaps of facts in their pencil cases that prove that learning to draw promotes many benefits. A key one being breaking down barriers, communicating ideas and improving visual literacy.
This year's theme is IT'S OUR WORLD, a celebration of our environment, being urban, rural and coastal landscapes. Many of the workshops listed on my 10 Best 1/2 Term article feature Big Draw sessions, so don't miss out on booking your place, as many venues have limited space.
Many celebrated illustrators, authors and designers are involved in the events this month. The party kicked off at The V&A Childhood Museum in Bethnal Green, where Writer, Jacqueline Wilsonsaid:
"I think it's a wonderful idea to have a whole month worth of activities aimed at encouraging absolutely everyone to pick up a pencil."
Campaign Director Sue Grayson Ford commented:
"No matter where you live, and regardless of your age or ability, The Big Draw invites you to pick up pen, pencil, crayon or any other mark-making device, and explore our world in new ways."
