Northern Irish rockers The Answer return to Birmingham on March 17, 2023, for a celebratory show at the O2 Institute in Digbeth. The reason for the celebration? It’s the release date of their seventh studio album, Sundowners, their first long player in seven years. The album will be showcased during a UK tour that includes dates in Blackpool, Bristol, London, Leeds and Belfast.



Preparations for the tour have not been without its complications, however. En route to rehearsals in Bristol the band’s tour van, instruments and equipment were stolen from the Premier Inn near Birmingham NEC on February 19.

The band issued a statement, saying: “The touring business for all bands is hard enough at the best of times so it rips the heart out of all the preparation and hard work that goes into putting a tour together when scumbag thieves do stuff like this. We remain undeterred. To all other bands, please stay vigilant.”

Guitarist Paul Mahon, bassist Micky Waters, drummer James Heatley and singer Cormac Neeson formed The Answer in 2000. The debut album, Rise, released in 2006, sold more than 125,000 copies worldwide and the band subsequently supported many rock legends, including The Rolling Stones , Deep Purple , Whitesnake , Paul Rodgers and Aerosmith . They opened for AC/DC on the 2008 and 2009 legs of the Black Ice world tour.



After taking some time out, they are now back, reinvigorated and ready to rock, says lead singer Cormac Neeson: “We’ve been through a lot as a band, toured the world, made six great records we’re all proud of, and always done our best to make honest and timeless music that connects with rock and music fans in general.

“After six albums and a lot of road miles we felt we needed to step back from it all and reset. Whilst that wasn’t an easy decision, in retrospect it’s possibly the best decision we’ve ever made because after seven years away we all came back fired up and end result is an album we’ve been waiting to make our whole lives… full of good time rock ‘n’ roll and positive energy created by four brothers who, quite frankly, just really missed each other.”
