The Acorn Inn is probably one of the newest pubs to be found in the historic cathedral city of Lichfield, but that is no reason to give it a wide berth when considering your drinking options.

The front of The Acorn Inn, Lichfield
This JD Wetherspoon pub only opened in Tamworth Street, Lichfield, in May 1998, rubbing shoulders as it does with other drinking establishments in the same road.
But, although its own history is less than 20 years old, the neighbouring building served as the similarly named The Acorn public house from at least the mid 19th century right up until the 1970s.

The welcoming sign says it all
The current Acorn Inn prides itself on serving great beer at almost knockdown prices in keeping with the Wetherspoons tradition of keeping costs down for its customers.
Coupled with a decent range of food, also at very affordable prices, it is no wonder that this pub maintains a steady influx of customers at all times.
Visitors to The Acorn Inn will be greeted, certainly at this time of year, by an array of colourful hanging baskets outside the premises.

The pretend mezzanine level at The Acorn Inn
The main lounge, which is decorated with artwork reflecting local historical figures, contains the impression of a mezzanine level.
On closer inspection, you'll discover that you can't actually get to it but it does allow a lot of light into what would otherwise be a quite dingy interior.

The main bar area with its array of ales
The centre-piece of the huge lounge is a long traditional looking bar which has two banks of six hand pumps. This provides for the regular beers of Ruddles Bitter, Abbott and Marston's Pedigree, all doubled up, but also plenty of room for a selection of guest ales.
