There was once a time when people believed that once you turned fifty, the best years of your life were gone; it was as if the most exciting thing you had to look forward to was Bingo on a Wednesday afternoon, or the occasional coach trip to the seaside.
The dregs of that belief were still hinted at as late as 2007, when Manchester hosted its first 'Retirement Show'. Although a lively event, The word 'retirement' gave all the wrong connotations. After all, how many people actually retire at fifty? The name also sounded like it was a show for people looking towards a quiet, slow paced future.
After an in-depth survey, the Retirement Show was thankfully rebranded to the
50 Plus Show in 2011, and takes place annually across five major UK cities.
The London 50 Plus Show arrives at Kensington Olympia Grand Hall from the 10th July-12th July. The event differs from year to year, but there are always a range of exciting activities that promote a fun and healthy lifestyle. And the best bit about it? The show is absolutely free. You can register for your ticket in advance online, by calling 01372840963, or simply arrive at the door.
This year activities will include cooking demonstrations, dancing, music, gardening, Craft & D.I.Y., a fashion show, and keep fit sessions. There will even be a climbing wall and bouncy castle.
