Get ready for a stitch in time at the , happening on January 24, 2025, not far from Manchester. This year marks a special occasion—October 2024 will celebrate a whole decade since Elizabeth Gaskell's House reopened its doors, thanks to a lot of elbow grease and a pinch of determination from a bunch of fantastic volunteers. Who knew saving a house could be such an epic saga featuring passionate characters like Janet Allan, the campaign queen, and Frank Galvin, the self-proclaimed 'House detective'?
This exhibition doesn't just tell any story; it takes you on a rollercoaster ride from the crumbling ruins of yesteryears to the stunning gem it is today, complete with tales of cake and lifelong friendships. The cherry on top of this patchwork cake is a commemorative quilt crafted by textile wizard Dr Sarah-Joy Ford, who's woven together the heartfelt tales gathered from the project. If you didn't think quilt-making could be a radical form of self-expression, just wait till you delve into her world of textiles, where digital meets traditional and community stories come to life. Oh, and the best part? Your ticket to this charming narrative includes a visit to the House itself, where every corner is brimming with history and a bit of sass.
