Two legends of cricketing punditry will be joined by a current star player with something new to prove during a special sporting occasion in Birmingham.
Test Match Special has been providing cricket fans with unbridled live radio commentary for more than 60 years after starting life on BBC Radio 3 in 1957. And now the iconic programme, which currently shares its home between Radio 4 long wave and BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra, is taking to the road for the very first time.
Test Match Special Live sees the radio show make a series of appearances on the live stage as it embarks on a UK tour which sees it make a welcome visit to
Symphony Hall in Birmingham on April 26. And leading the way are two of the stalwarts of TMS in recent years - Jonathan Agnew, who has been a commentator since 1991, and Phil Tufnell, who joined the ranks of summarisers in 2003.
And also making the TMS live team alongside 'Aggers' and 'Tuffers; is current England fast bowler Stuart Broad, who was controversially left out of the recent series in the West Indies despite having more than 500 Test wickets. Test Match Special has delighted millions of cricket fans at home and abroad with its unparalleled coverage of cricket thanks to the combined wit and wisdom of the likes of John Arlott, Brian Johnston, Henry Blofeld and Geoffrey Boycott. Now audiences can sit back and listen to current TMS hosts Jonathan Agnew and Phil Tufnell tell amazing stories of life on the road as players and now as commentators, from Birmingham to Barbados. The TMS Live show will also include previously unseen footage of commentary moments, while fans will be able to bowl the two famous number 11s their own 'googlies' in a question and answer session at the end.
BBC Cricket producer Adam Mountford said: "
Test Match Special is so fortunate to have a unique and special relationship with its audience, and this is a wonderful opportunity for two of our stars to hit the road and meet some of the listeners who make the programme what it is. I'm looking forward to catching some of the shows, too, and share in a celebration of cricket, radio commentary and perhaps a little cake!"
Presented by BBC Radio 5 Live, Test Match Special will take place at Symphony Hall, a B:Music venue on Tuesday 26 April 2022 at 7.30pm.
